Soldiers Human Rights -Tragic Oxymoron!

I saw this report on the BBC wesbite, here's the original

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7342324.stm

As I read through it I found myself makings these following comments - they are in italics.

This is what I think.

What do you think? Lets be honest here.

Human rights 'apply to UK troops'

(bbc headline!)

Human rights laws can be applied to British troops even in combat, a High Court judge has ruled
.
Duh!

The landmark judgement came in a test case relating to the death of Scottish soldier Pte Jason Smith in Iraq.

Mr Justice Collins said sending soldiers into action without proper kit could breach human rights. Ministers are appealing against the ruling.

What about the human rights of those caught in the crossfire?

What kind of kit would the court estimate would be 'poper' for a woman with three children, and two grandparents caught in the crossfire?

Whose responsibility is it to provide that kit?

The court also ruled families of those killed in conflict should get legal aid and access to military documents.

Ditto…

The judgement came during a request for military inquest guidelines in the case of Pte Smith, 32, from Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, who died of heatstroke in Iraq in 2003.

Legal defeat

Moral Victory?

Phyrric Victory!

Lawyers for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had argued it was impossible to give soldiers in combat situations the benefits of the Human Rights Act.

But Mr Justice Collins said that although a duty of care could not be expected in combat, troops did not lose all protection.

So give them proper kit? Still getting shot at! And shooting back! Still murder! Still illegal!

It's an illegal war of aggression!

m8!

For example, sending a soldier out on patrol with defective equipment might be a breach of Article 2 of the Human Rights Act - the right to life, which in the event of death requires an independent inquiry.

Many believe the judgement will make it easier for the families of those injured or killed in Iraq and Afghanistan to claim for compensation.

Is it really that hard?

The decision was a legal defeat for Defence Secretary Des Browne who also had his attempt to ban coroners from using critical phrases such as "serious failure" rejected.

It is! You would sell your mothers soul for whateva!

Jocelyn Cockburn, the solicitor for Pte Smith's family, said the ruling meant British soldiers sent abroad would "have the same human rights as any other British citizens and must be properly equipped when sent into battle".

Hmmmmmmmm …. aren't human rights applicable to ALL nationalities, equally and without favour?

Duh!

Hello?

Catherine Smith, Pte Smith's mother, welcomed the decision and said she hoped other families would now not have to struggle in the same way she did to find out how their loved ones died.

"It was questions upon questions that we couldn't get - we couldn't get any information at all. And I think that's wrong. We should've had disclosure."

She's right, of course. And braver , so much more committed to just cause than many in parliament, in that she seeks to face down the Government and the MOD! She is their equal in every way. Each of us is.

'Common sense'

Diane Dernie, the mother of L/Bombadier Ben Parkinson, from Yorkshire, who was injured in an explosion in Afghanistan last year, told the BBC the decision was "absolute common sense".

Soldiers Human Rights -Tragic Oxymoron!

Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti said it was now clear it was "not just the military covenant that protects our forces all over the world".

"Their fundamental right to dignity and fair treatment must be safeguarded as well."

As well as what, might I ask?

Their right to murder people?

Their right to follow illegal orders?

Their right to NOT follow illegal orders?

... or is that a duty, under the Law?

But shadow(y) defence(sive) secretary Liam Fox said it should not have taken a court decision for ministers to realise they had "a responsibility and a moral obligation" to ensure troops were the "best trained and best equipped in the world".

Human Rights? 'Best' trained killers? 'Best' weapons of mass destruction? This is insane!

Liberal Democrat defence spokesman Nick Harvey described the ruling as a "shattering ruling for Des Browne" and said he hoped it would "wake the government up" to equipment shortages.
HAVE YOUR SAY

I must be at the wrong meeting!

The government has a moral obligation to equip those it sends into battle on our behalf properly
Matt Hennessy, London Send us your comments

Those in government, being of able body, and unmarried have a moral obligation to equip themselves appropriately and go fight the fuckin' wars themselves.

However, Mr Browne told the BBC his department had come "a long way" in response to "the changing environment both in Iraq and Afghanistan" regarding equipment.

So That's all right then! You guys are on it! Yay! LMAO!

"So this is criticism which is dated criticism from a different time. It is not applicable to the troops that are presently deployed."

Well that's nice to hear! Although ithe courts decision is a precedent! Well, OK then, possibly….

He confirmed the MoD would be appealing against the ruling that sending British soldiers into battle with defective equipment could breach human rights.

You What? Appeal? Didn't you hear the man? You really want to send young men to me maimed, traumatised, even to their deaths, men you have asked to do your dirty work for you?

You Absolute Tosser! And all who like you see fit to use legal instruments applied to mitigate murder, as opposed to banning it outright. Ist that it?

On the judge's rejection of the government's bid to stop coroners using critical language, the MoD said it had never attempted to prevent coroners from "undertaking independent investigations and making their findings public".

You quibble over wording when peoples lives are destroyed by decision that you make and their consequences.

Damn! I got taken in again, for a moment I had lost the sight of all the civilians who are the majority of casualties, across all three spectra - psychological trauma, maiming, death not to mention the collapse of society, for a moment I was really only concerned about the soldiers human rights.

Just stop the bloody war and start to make reparations, dude! It's our money. We WANT YOU TO DO THIS!

Stop the war.

....and... geuss what?

Brownie Boy

....... is NOT

..... really

..... listening!

So hit him, and all the civilian and corporate war makers where it hurts - in the pocket, to do this we need to build communities everywhere, that is talk to each other and break the spell of the denial- we all need to learn to grow food, and start to withold our taxes that we who do pay taxes, pay to central government.....and this is legaly sound and cannot be prosecuted under any law because it is merely upholding the Law, both National and International..it is do-able..... and if done....... then very soon after it will bring the wars to a close.

Then it won't matter if they don't listen. They will stand trial.

People must be mature ebough to accept the responsibility of taking any and all possible legal action that leads to stopping thes wars dead in their tracks.

Be the Law!

It's about all humans rightful expectation that peace should prevail, that greed be curbed and that wars shoudl stop. Now. Just say No!

Olympics SchmOlympircks!

The Olympic protests are great! They show the hypocrisy of all current model of Governance for what it is! Well done those who disrupt the flames progress around the globe!

Many in the Wests Media are currently pointing the finger at the Chinese Government, and many 'pundits' are commenting on China's suppression of Tibet, asking questions about China's readiness to 'enter the fold' of Democracies. They also ask questions about the apparent inability of various police forces to suppress the protesters and make comments on the 'disruption' and 'bad publicity' that the organisers, the IOC, are having to 'deal' with.

Yet few of them are realising that there are three other fingers pointing right back at themselves, and that to those who have the eyes to see, it is blindingly obvious (a neat oxymoron, if ever there was one) that those who on one hand engage in Wars of Aggression, those who export pollution to other countries to maintain the illusion of clean technologies in their own countries, those who exercise power over people rather than power for the people as standard behaviour are in no place to criticise others whose practices they supposedly abhor.

Finger One : There is the cogent fact that the West has exported almost all of it's toxic polluting manufacturing processes to China, where child labour and near as damnit indentured labour exist as standard fare for the majority, in particular those who come from the countryside...

On this our pundits remain silent. In fact most of the products they are wearing, using and consuming are made in China.

Finger Two : Furthermore, our own Governments are engaged in illegal wars of aggression in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly in other places under covert operations..... and this is something they have always done, it is nothing new. It is our history.

Another aspect of the Olympics, though hardly worth a finger (other than in the proverbial) is the drug taking that is rife! Both amongst the athletes (performance enhancing) and those who design and build the facades, the edifices of greed, the modern day coliseums. I am sure it takes a lot of cocaine to set up the great big deals and make the 'cool' designs (most of which are truly dreadful - the London Logo being but one example!) - hubris and greed, as ever bedmates!

The survival of the fittest is a meme that Empire spreads in order to provide manure for it's agenda, and it is proven to be so far wide of the mark that it is purely by virtue of the conditioning process we have all been subjected to that it is ever discussed in an serious terms.

Bio-diversity Science tells us what the ancients knew well, because they lived on the land, with the land and saw themselves as being of the land - they knew that all nature is a life-giving co-operative, a vast altruistic interaction that provides everything within it what it needs to grow to full potential.

Finger Three : Compare that with Western Civilisation, which chews up everything it meets, spits out what is of no use either to itself or any other life form, and continues to grow, to expand, to dominate all other ways of living. Western Civilisation, being the civilisation of city states, eats up the natural resources and converts them into toxins. For what?

For profit, for greed and for power over others. All the symptoms of a profound, abysmal loss of identity, a deep sense of inadequacy and thus a fatal misunderstanding of the nature and great gift of life.

Here's my video fro my song "The Olympics are Here"

Enjoy is hardly the word, but if you have a car with a good sound system, put the song on yer player and open the windows, drive slowly and play it LOUD!

What to do.............?

A friend of mine wrote to me to tell me that he felt much of what I was saying in my writings, songs and videos ... yet he was at a loss as to what to do, .... so I fired of this to him. He liked it, so I'm putting it up here for comment....

WHAT TO DO..........

First off, be sure of who one is, ie: trust feelings, and be honest with them. Everything we have ever been told by the representatives of the system has been intended to make us forget who we are. people who are unsure will adopt an external element as an identity prop. I've done it myself, many times.

Even about 99.9% of new age stuff!

Being true to oneself, acting with integrity is vital. NEVER EVER do anything, say anything other than what you really feel.

Be one who can be broken (killed) yet NEVER BENT TO ANOTHERS WAY. We are of use to those who manipulate if we are capable of being bent....

Two - take care of your own happiness, sort your issues out as a daily yoga. This will help you see clearly what is real and what is not. Feelings are vitally important here. Recognise that emotions are merely feelings re-interpreted by the brain/mind that is conditioned. Reject the re-interpretation, and be honest.

Three - avoid fear based myth, stories etc, because fear clouds perception.

Four - eradicate any beliefs you hold. Know or accept you do not know and rest with that. It's ok! Beliefs are the basis for all religions, 99% of new age stuff, all ideologies etc....

Then, with a sense of humour, and gratitude for this life, for the fingers you did nothing to create, for the eyes you have to see, for the light that enables your eyes to work, live and be who you are. Life is a humungous gift, freely given. Treat it as such at all times.

Then, in your own way, without trying to impress anyone, spread the word, and be prepared to get involved in direct action, when the time comes. For many the time is now!

Music's function is to empower, not to impress. People who are impressed are impressionable. Which is a product of conditioning.

I can tell you this - I am not going mad. I'm getting mad as hell, outraged at what is happening. And it's coming from a man who is happy to be who he is.

There are no guarantees, and each as day passes there's far more people getting clear in themselves, and working around the 'system' than the media would ever allow. Already we outnumber the psycho control freaks by a factor of 1 million to 1....

Easter.........bunnies, music and compassion.

This weekend was Easter, it was the Zoastrian new year as well and it was also the Spring Equinox, with a beautiful full moon to boot.

For me it was a weekend of beautiful music, intelligent, compassionate people and also the appearance of the first buds of a soft, sweet Corneilius as a performer. Soft and strong, like the loo paper! lol!

I have been ranting a fair bit at gigs in the past few years, partly because I have been deeply immersed in looking directly at what is not working in our culture, at the wars, theh greed, the dysfunction, the consciously imposed plans for domination and control .... and partly because I feel there is a need and a place for the anger that comes from outrage to find expression. And also attempting to coming to terms with the reality of the needless mass pain that is inflicted as a result of those consciously crafted plans by those who seek power. I have found that I am not diminished in any way when I fully appraise the reality and allow myself to 'feel' what is going on.

Sometimes the 'rational' discussion that media engage in seems so ... heartless, devoid of hope or compassion, resigned to "well this is how it is, it can't be changed, so deal with it" sort of.....and the endless 'debate' in Politics seems to be merely a distraction, a sideshow to the underlying dynamics that make corporate greed, consumerism and fear the order of the day...

Thus I have been openly angry, openly unhappy, openly broken hearted on stage and on on-line.

This weekend I performed at a squat party as a dj, for the second time in two years (it's been that long since I was a regular dj at chill-out rooms) and I ended up playing three sets, ( Ilove to play, I am a stage slut!) about 8 hours in total. The second set, early in the morning seemed to ingnite the room, as I hit a really good vibe, and really felt into the vibe in the room. We were all in it together. It was gorgeous. I am so lucky to have such beautiful music in my possession, tracks I have found my self, and tracks given to me by some of the best djs I know..i9 was blessing all of them as track after track worked for the people inbthe room.......and it is the music that does the work, I merely select the tracks hoping it's the best track for that room, at that point in time. It's all about the dancers, the chatters, the comfort in the people....

It's all about the beauty. No need for a 'message' in that environment. No place to rant. Very refreshing indeed.

On sunday evening I did the Harmony Sunday at Inspiralled Cafe in Camden Town, and this weekend Dom, the owner, came into pass some feedback to us about how the event was going, feedback we needed....... he asked that we refocus the room so that the artists really had the peoples attention and suggested that we do 15 minute sets followed by a 10 minute break so that people could order food and drinks and chat....and geuss what, it worked beautifully.

The room was so attentive and the performers were all great. My own short set comprised 4 songs. Dom had asked me to include some different songs as I had always played the 'cup of tea' song over the past few months (along with my more rantier stuff!). So I played 4 of my sweetest gentlest songs, to match the quiet attention of the room, and it really showed me that it is my gentle, compaasionate side that is most effective in getting the message across. Everyone was intent on every note, every word. I was allowed in that environment to access the deepest emotions and feelings related to the songs, and there was also room for some humour too as I chatted in between the songs. A delight for all concerned.

set list

Keep on Moving, (keep on growing strong)
Expectations of Every Child
Love is not for Earning
The Heart Song

I also made a quick video, omn Saturday afternoon, before th gig, it's a satire, a parody highlighting the contrast in the money spent on war and the money spent on Easter Candy........

Does Education Kill Creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. With ample anecdotes and witty asides, Robinson points out the many ways our schools fail to recognize -- much less cultivate -- the talents of many brilliant people. "We are educating people out of their creativity," Robinson says. The universality of his message is evidenced by its rampant popularity online. A typical review: "If you have not yet seen Sir Ken Robinson's TED talk, please stop whatever you're doing and watch it now
